National Chairman Sue Drummond has recently undertaken a fabulous trip up north, thoroughly enjoying catching up with Chair Lynn Caskey, her wonderful committee and the members of Cairns society. Sue attended their May lecture, presented by Dr Sally Butler – ‘Australian Place-Makers’.

This talk examines artistic techniques that some of Australia’s most iconic artists have used to capture a sense of place within their work. Themes included are Lawrence Daws’ symbolism of the Glass House Mountains, Mavis Ngallametta’s vitalisation of Aurukun wetlands, Fred Williams’ perspectivism of gum-tree bushland, Albert Namatjira’s animation of Central Australia, and Jeffrey Smart’s love-hate psychology of city-scapes.
