A HISTORY OF THE TIARA FOR ADELAIDE

Gill Potter, Chair of ADFAS Adelaide, this week welcomed Chair of the National Association of ADFAS Sue Drummond, for a visit to their society.  Sue was delighted to attend Adelaide’s June lecture presented by Angus Trumble.  Angus is a former curator at the Art Gallery of South Australia and Director of the National Portrait Gallery of Australia, Canberra.

The lecture, titled ‘A Brief History of the Tiara’, talked about the tiara through the 50 years following the Kimberley diamond strike in 1868, which saw an upsurge of consistently bigger stones and these magnificent jewels underwent many transformations. Angus joined the committee for a delicious lunch at the Old Lion, North Adelaide.  Sue Drummond has enjoyed a fabulous round trip of Fleurieu and Adelaide societies.
