2023 Summer Events

As the ArtsNational yer draws to a close, members won’t be starved of art and culture. Major exhibitions at our Partner AGNSW showcase two important artists.

Louise BourgeoisHas the Day Invaded the Night or Has the Night Invaded the Day?
25 November 2023 – 28 April 2024

One of the most important sculptors of the twentieth century reveals the extraordinary reach and intensity of her art, from her haunting Personage sculptures of the 1940s to her tough yet tender textile works of the 1990s and 2000s. It also reveals, as never before, the psychological tensions that powered her search, through a dramatic presentation in two contrasting exhibition spaces.

Vasily Kandinsky
4 November 2023 – 10 March 2024

Showcasing the life and work of one of the most influential and best-loved European modernists. One of the great innovators of European abstraction, Vasily Kandinsky (1866–1944) broke new ground in painting during the first decades of the 20th century. In 1911, he wrote about art’s potential to ‘stand alone’, with imagery independent of the natural world. The development of a new subject matter based solely on the artist’s ‘inner necessity’ would occupy him for the rest of his life.
