Arts student receives $3500 scholarship
28 March 2007
USC arts and business student Gemma Dittmar has received a
$3500 scholarship from the Sunshine Coast Branch of the Australian
Decorative and Fine Arts Society (ADFAS).

The Society last night presented Gemma – a Bachelor
of Arts/Bachelor of Business (Design and Marketing) student – with
the scholarship which includes a year’s membership to
ADFAS and an internship at the University’s Art Gallery.
Branch chair Airlie Bell said this was the fifth scholarship
ADFAS had provided to support design students and increase
professionalism in the arts industry on the Sunshine Coast.
“The Society is delighted to be able to assist the University
with the internship,’’ she said. “It fits
well into our mission, and brings the Society and the University
closer together”.
Gemma, who runs her own freelance design business, said the
scholarship would give her an opportunity to learn how an art
gallery operated and how to organise exhibitions.
“I also think it will be beneficial to be in a creative
environment where I am constantly learning about art and creativity,’’ she
said.
“I am looking forward to helping the Art Gallery gain
exposure to the University student community and to promote
it as a teaching resource. I am most grateful for this opportunity
as it will be ‘real world experience’ that I hope
will help me with my career.”
Gallery Curator Dawn Oelrich said interns provided a most
useful addition to the Gallery’s resources.
“The ADFAS scholarship provides a wonderful opportunity
for the students and I look forward to working with Gemma in
the coming year,” she said.
The University of the Sunshine Coast Gallery, located at the
University campus on Sippy Downs Drive, Sippy Downs, is open
to the public from 10am to 4pm Monday to Saturday. The Gallery
is closed Sundays and on public holidays.
The 2007 USC Gallery Exhibition Program is proudly supported
by Sajen legal.
