Young Arts
The Association of ADFAS actively encourages Societies to promote arts activities that inspire young people with a lasting enthusiasm for the arts, an awareness of our arts heritage and its conservation and to expand the horizons of young people through their involvement in creative arts.
Young Arts Projects are arts-related activities for an individual or a number of young people that have been funded wholly or partly by an ADFAS Society. Many Societies provide awards and scholarships while others sponsor a particular project or workshop, or fund the purchase of art materials or visits to galleries, museums, the theatre or an art exhibition.
The support for Young Arts is diverse and exciting and broadly falls into the following categories -
- Art Exhibitions and Competitions
- Awards and Scholarships for Tertiary Arts Students
- Funding Youth Orchestras, theatre, ballet, music and exhibitions
Funding Activities in Museums, Galleries and historic houses
- Funding School Visits to Galleries and Museums
- Provision of Art Books and Art Equipment in Schools
- Young Arts Committees and Groups
- ADFAS Lectures and Functions
ADFAS Bulletin
Societies contribute information about Young
Arts to a Young Arts feature in the annually produced ADFAS
Bulletin. This is an effective way to share information about
Young Arts activities with ADFAS membership and the wider
community.
Young Arts News
A Newsheet has been initiated to provide
a brief overview of the variety of ways Societies support
young creative people in the community.
Young Arts Funds
Over $70,000 was given by ADFAS Societies in Australia in 2011 for a variety of Young Arts Programs to support young people in their communities.
Certificate
A Young Arts Certificate is available for Societies to use for the presentation of ADFAS Awards. This can be downloaded from the secure Committee section of the website and adapted to the individual requirements of a Society.
Pauline Hopkins Cup
The Pauline Hopkins Cup is awarded annually to an ADFAS Society. One society is selected annually from nominations to receive this recognition for an innovative and exciting Young Arts program. The presentation provides the opportunity to acknowledge the contribution of ADFAS societies to Young Arts and highlight one Society annually. The application form is available from the Young Arts Co-ordinator, or can be downloaded below.
