About Volunteering
Each ADFAS society has many talented members
- artists, sculptors, potters, gardeners, embroiderers, teachers,
researchers, avid travellers – enthusiasts for all forms
of artistic activity.
ADFAS projects provide ways to utilise and
develop these talents, and work with other community organisations
which need our
expertise. Some are of finite length, others are ongoing.
The constitution of ADFAS societies states an object “to
give voluntary assistance in houses of historic or artistic
interest, museums, exhibitions and other places where such
assistance is required including guiding, conservation, cataloguing
and recording work…” , and we encourage members
to consider ways in which the development of the interests
and talents of members can also contribute to our communities.
Volunteering provides the opportunity for personal enrichment
of our members.
Projects can be initiated by community organisations in need of help, or by society members who have an interest in a particular form of activity. Once a project is defined it is commenced, on agreement from the host organisation. Most programs require training of the volunteers, and are great opportunities to share skills, knowledge and companionship. A wide variety of projects has been undertaken, including guiding, cataloguing and conservation work.
