What is ADFAS?
The Association of Australian Decorative
and Fine Arts Societies is the umbrella organisation
for the 33 Decorative and Fine Arts Societies located in
major cities and regional areas throughout Australia.
Each Society promotes education in, and the study of the decorative and fine arts, by offering high quality monthly lectures on diverse topics within the arts.
Societies are encouraged to make contributions
to their communities by supporting individual and group artistic
endeavours, assisting members to form a Volunteer group (for
guiding and conservation work) and, particularly in rural areas,
by becoming a focus for cultural activities in the region.

What is history of ADFAS?
The first Australian Decorative and Fine Arts Society was formed in Sydney in 1985 by Mrs Patricia Robertson OAM and an enthusiastic group of founding members. It was based on the National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts Societies (NADFAS), founded in England in 1968. The Association of ADFAS was formed in 1989 to co-ordinate the activities of the individual societies within Australia. It is a Group Associate Member of NADFAS and is administered by a National Executive Committee, policy being determined by a Council of Society Chairmen which meets twice a year.
How do I find a society in my area?
There are now 33 societies in Australia. Societies are located in major cities and rural areas, from Hobart in the south to Cairns in the far north. For more information email admin@adfas.org.au.
How do I create a new society?
Enquiries regarding the establishment of a new society should be directed to newsocieties@adfas.org.au
How are societies funded and organised?
Each Society is managed by a volunteer chairman and committee. Members pay an annual subscription which allows the Society to organize a programme of six to nine lectures. On occasion special interest days are offered which provide an in-depth look at a particular topic. Some Societies organise day trips to places of cultural or artistic interest.
